Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee President Jeetu Patwari has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, highlighting a worrying surge in attacks on police personnel. He said, “Law and order in Madhya Pradesh has completely collapsed. The situation is so alarming that even the police are not safe — what then of the common people?”
Over 460 attacks on police in 18 months
Citing official figures presented in the State Assembly, Patwari revealed that in the past one and a half years, more than 461 attacks on police personnel have taken place across the state, leaving 612 officers injured and five dead. “Just in October 2025, two major incidents were reported in Panna and Katni, where mobs attacked police teams, looted rifles, and left several officers seriously injured,” he said. “If the police themselves are unsafe, how can citizens feel secure?”
‘Politically shielded criminals behind attacks’
Patwari alleged that these attacks were not isolated crimes but the outcome of a “well-organised conspiracy by criminals enjoying political protection”. He remarked, “An attack on the police is an attack on the rule of law. Under this government, criminals seem to rule while the law lies helpless.”
‘Double role, double damage’ to governance
Taking a jibe at the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, Patwari said, “The Chief Minister’s ‘double role’ has turned into a ‘double mistake’, causing ‘double damage’ to law and order. The Home Minister’s obstinacy and the CM’s helplessness have together crippled governance.”
Congress demands Home Minister’s resignation
Patwari asserted, “When, on average, a police officer is attacked every day, it is a democratic crime for the Home Minister to remain in office. The most ineffective Home Minister must resign immediately to restore public confidence and law and order.”
