Four killed in cracker blast near Chennai

Chennai, Oct 19 (UN) Four people were killed in a cracker blast at a house at suburban Avadi today afternoon.

When contacted by UNI, sources at the police headquarters here confirmed the death of four people.

They said crackers which were kept in the house at Thandarai area near Avadi for bursting it on Diwaly day tomorrow, suddenly caught fire and exploded killing four people on the spot.

All the four were said to be members of the same family.

The impact of the explosion was such that the house was completely razed to the ground.

Pattabhiram police, along with fire and rescue service department personnel rushed to the

spot and retrieved two bodies from the debris and shifted them to government hospital for post mortem.

Efforts were on to retrieve the other two bodies from the rubble.

Pattabhiram police have registered a case and are investigating.

A pall of gloom prevailed in the neighbourhood due to the unfortunate tragedy on the eve of Diwali festival.
