Nikah Sammelan on Oct 22 to Promote Simple, Dowry-Free Marriages

MP Muslim Vikas Parishad leads campaign against dowry

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Muslim Vikas Parishad in Bhopal is taking significant steps to combat the growing dowry culture in society. According to program convener Syed Ashraf Ali (Advocate) and coordinator Shavez Sikandar, the increasing trend of dowry has become a social stigma within the Muslim community.

To address this issue, the council is organizing a “Nikah Parichay Sammelan” on October 22 (Wednesday) from 9 AM to 3 PM at Hamid Manzil, Bhopal. The event has garnered a positive response, with over 400 young men and women and their parents already registered. This will be the 22nd conference of its kind organized by the council.

The event invites families who wish to conduct marriages according to the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, free from dowry demands and un-Islamic rituals.

Promoting simplicity in marriage

Council member Syed Faiz Ali emphasized that the main goal is to promote simple, dignified marriages based on Islamic teachings, ensuring peace and equality within households. He stated, “In Islam, the burden of marriage should not fall on the bride’s family. The dowry system goes against the core spirit of Islamic marriage.”

He further added that the council is committed to spreading awareness and organizing such events regularly, encouraging youth and families to adopt dowry-free practices for a more just and compassionate society.
