Washington, Oct 16 (UNI) Academy Award–winning actress Diane Keaton died of Pneumonia, her family has confirmed in a statement.
“The Keaton family is very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11,” read the family’s statement shared exclusively with People.
Keaton’s family also reflected on her compassion and commitment to causes close to her heart. “She loved her animals and was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much-appreciated tribute,” the statement continued.
Over the following decades, Keaton became one of Hollywood’s most respected and versatile stars, starring in acclaimed films ‘Something’s Gotta Give’, the latter earning her another Oscar nomination. She frequently collaborated with legendary directors including Woody Allen, Francis Ford Coppola, and Nancy Meyers.
Beyond acting, Keaton also stepped behind the camera, directing the 1987 documentary Heaven and the 2000 feature film Hanging Up. In recent years, she appeared in Book Club and its sequel, as well as in Justin Bieber’s 2021 music video for Ghost.
Though she never married, Keaton was romantically linked to Warren Beatty, Al Pacino, and Woody Allen. She is survived by her two adopted children — daughter Dexter (born 1996) and son Duke (born 2001).
