New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) In a reaffirmation of its commitment to regional cooperation and as first responder, India has gifted critical Prussian Blue Capsules to Indonesia to mitigate the radioactive effects of Cesium-137 contamination.
On the request of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, the Indian Embassy in Jakarta mobilized urgently required capsules of Prussian Blue.
Indian Ambassador Sandeep Chakravorty handed over the medicines to the representatives from Indonesian Health Ministry.
The MEA spokesperson said in a post on X:
“Reaffirming India’s commitment to regional cooperation.
“A consignment of essential medicines to help mitigate radiation exposure following a recent incident has been handed over to Indonesia.”
The Indian Embassy in Jakarta said in a post on X, that the gift of Prussian Blue Capsules will support Indonesia’s mitigation efforts for potential nuclear or radiological emergencies, specifically contamination involving Cesium-137.
Indonesian authorities are managing a radioactive contamination incident involving Cesium-137 (Cs-137), a man-made radioactive isotope.
The issue first came to light in August 2025 after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) detected contamination in exported shrimp and spices, prompting import restrictions and a wider investigation.
The contamination has been traced to a metal scrapyard and a stainless steel smelter in the Modern Cikande Industrial Estate in Serang, Banten province.
Investigators believe the Cs-137 entered the country via imported scrap metal containing the radioactive material.
