AAP welcomes green crackers but questions government’s preparedness for pollution season

New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has stated its approval of the Supreme Court’s decision to allow green crackers in Delhi for Diwali but has raised concerns about the enforcement of the order and the government’s overall readiness for the winter pollution season.

Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai, while welcoming the court’s move, pointed to past failures in implementation.

He recalled that in 2018, similar permission for green crackers was granted, but a lack of effective enforcement led the National Green Tribunal to impose a complete ban later.

Rai expressed hope that the current administration would ensure strict adherence to the Supreme Court’s guidelines.

Rai also criticized the delay in announcing a Winter Action Plan, noting that half of October has passed without a strategy from the government to tackle the annual surge in air pollution.

He described this delay as a sign of indifference towards the city’s pollution crisis.

The AAP leader highlighted that during its tenure, his party’s government had worked to reduce pollution levels by following directives from the Commission for Air Quality Management and the Supreme Court.

He urged the current government to act proactively to protect Delhi’s residents from pollution hazards.
