Dharamshala, Oct 14 (UNI) Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kangra, Hemraj Bairwa, urged all sections of society to join hands in making the district tuberculosis (TB)-free.
He was presiding over a multi-sectoral review meeting of the TB-Free India Campaign held at the DC office in Dharamshala.
The meeting reviewed ongoing TB eradication efforts and chalked out the action plan for the coming month.
Officials from various departments, social organizations, and institutions attended, including Dr. Bhavani Singh Kushwaha, TB Officer, Central TB Division, and D. Dharma Rao, National Advisor for the Nikshay Mitra Initiative.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the fight against TB must become a people’s movement, involving every department, panchayat, institution, and citizen.
He highlighted that under the Nikshay Mitra Initiative, TB patients are being provided nutritional support, counseling, and social empowerment with the help of organisations such as the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Samiti, Sant Nirankari Mandal, and the Red Cross Society.
He informed that over 200 panchayats in Kangra district have already been declared TB-free — a major milestone.
Stressing the importance of youth participation, he said awareness drives are being conducted through My Yuva Bharat, the Youth Services and Sports Department, and social media platforms.
During the meeting, the DC honored TB Champions Antima Guleria and Sanjeev Kumar, along with institutions and individuals, for their outstanding contributions to the campaign.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Vivek Karol, District Health Officer Dr. R.K. Sood, and officials from the WHO and other departments were also present.
