BJP opposes move to shift Regional Censor Board to Kochi

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 13 (UNI) The Kerala unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has come out strongly against reported moves to relocate the Regional Censor Board office from Thiruvananthapuram to Kochi, warning that any such attempt would be met with united resistance.

“Thiruvananthapuram is the heart of Malayalam cinema, home to some of the finest production and post-production facilities in the State. The capital city houses world-class theatres, editing and dubbing studios, as well as major establishments such as Chitranjali Studios and the KINFRA Film and Video Park,” party Thiruvananthapuram City District President Karamana Jayan said.

He alleged that certain vested interests were deliberately trying to uproot the film industry from Thiruvananthapuram through gradual and systematic efforts.

“The proposal to shift the Censor Board office is part of the growing political and communal interference that has begun to affect the Malayalam film sector in recent times,” he said.

Asserting that the Regional Censor Board “rightfully belongs” in the State capital, Jayan warned that the BJP and the local film fraternity would strongly oppose any attempt to move it elsewhere.

He urged filmmakers to make full use of the capital’s comprehensive infrastructure and conducive creative ecosystem.

“Thiruvananthapuram offers everything the film industry needs — from skilled professionals and modern facilities to a vibrant cultural environment. We should work together to strengthen this ecosystem, not dismantle it,” he added.
