  • Accusation of fatal beating by Police
  • Two policemen suspended

Bhopal: The Bhopal police force is facing intense scrutiny and charges of brutality after a B.Tech student, who is the brother-in-law of a DSP, died following an alleged beating by two constables. The incident, which occurred in the Indrapuri area, has sparked outrage, with video evidence circulating widely on social media.

Midnight confrontation turns deadly

The victim, 22-year-old Udit Gayki, was a final-year B.Tech student who was reportedly sitting with a friend near his home late last night. According to reports, patrolling constables Santosh Bamnia and Saurabh Arya confronted the pair, accusing them of consuming alcohol publicly.

A verbal altercation quickly escalated into severe physical violence. The constables allegedly used sticks to beat Gayki so brutally that he was left critically injured and was subsequently admitted to AIIMS in a gravely wounded state. He succumbed to his injuries this morning.

Police action and family’s outcry

Responding to the gravity of the situation and the viral footage, DCP Vivek Singh immediately suspended the two constables.

The deceased’s relatives, who allege he was beaten both on the street and inside the police station, staged a protest. They are demanding stringent action against the accused officers, noting that the victim’s brother-in-law is a serving DSP in Balaghat. While the police insist the death did not occur in custody, the suspension and the existence of video evidence underscore the seriousness of the allegations. Further legal action is contingent upon the findings of the post-mortem examination.
