Digvijaya Singh pushes to end Congress Factionalism ahead of 2028 Polls

Bhopal: Veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh is spearheading an intensive drive to heal the deep-seated factionalism plaguing the Madhya Pradesh unit. His primary goal is to forge a united front essential for the party’s revival in the 2028 Assembly elections.

Mending Old Fences

Singh’s efforts have intensified with a series of meetings aimed at bridging internal divides. Following a discussion with Ajay Singh, he recently held a crucial, closed-door meeting with the Leader of Opposition, Umang Singhar. This highly scrutinized meeting is particularly significant given the history of public animosity between the two leaders, including Singhar’s past accusation that Singh was running a parallel government during the Kamal Nath tenure.

The current push for unity is aimed at sending a clear message: success in 2028 is contingent upon absolute cohesion.

Focus on the Next Generation

While former CM Kamal Nath’s political engagement appears largely limited to social media, Singh remains hyper-active on the ground, working in tandem with the new state president, Jitu Patwari.

A key element of Singh’s strategy is integrating the party’s second-generation leadership, including Singhar, Patwari, and his son, Jayawardhan Singh, who previously held a notable portfolio in the Kamal Nath cabinet. By dissolving old feuds and consolidating power around these younger leaders, Digvijaya Singh is attempting to secure both the party’s future and his son’s political legacy.
