State-Level Narco Coordination Center Committee Revamped: Chief Secretary to be Chairperson

Bhopal: The State Government has reconstituted the State Level Narco Coordination Centre (NARCORD) Committee, placing it under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary. The move is aimed at enhancing strategic coordination among various stakeholders to effectively counter drug trafficking and address related policy issues.

Multi-agency oversight

The powerful reorganized committee brings together top officials from numerous crucial departments, including the Additional Chief Secretaries/Principal Secretaries of Home, Health, Social Justice, Forest, and Agriculture, alongside the Director General of Police.

Key federal and state enforcement agencies are also represented, including the Deputy Narcotics Commissioner (CNB), Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Enforcement Directorate (ED), and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). This broad mandate ensures a comprehensive, integrated approach.

Tackling drugs from farm to coast

The committee is tasked with overseeing crucial functions: monitoring drug smuggling (including coastal and maritime routes), coordinating enforcement efforts across all state departments, and aggressively promoting anti-drug awareness.

Crucially, it will focus on developing and implementing alternative development programs for areas affected by the illegal cultivation of narcotic crops. Additionally, the committee will monitor funding utilization for drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centers, undertake forensic capacity analysis, and address capacity building and training to create a robust and vigilant anti-narcotics framework.
