Congress questions CM over deaths caused by toxic syrup

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress Media Department President Dr Mukesh Nayak on Thursday sharply criticised Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for blaming the Tamil Nadu government over the deaths of children caused by toxic cough syrup.

Dr Nayak questioned how the Tamil Nadu government could be held responsible when the syrup was manufactured, sold, and caused deaths within Madhya Pradesh. He accused the state’s Food and Drug Department of negligence, saying its officers failed to act while the deadly product was openly available in the market.

“Why has no action been taken against the officials who issued the licences and allowed this poisonous syrup to reach innocent children?” he asked.

The Congress leader said the Chief Minister should not shift the blame to other states to cover up his government’s failure. “This is not politics but a question of humanity,” he added. “The people of Madhya Pradesh seek accountability from their own government, not from Tamil Nadu. Every culprit must be punished — this is not only the Congress’s demand but also the cry of every mother who lost her child.”
