Zubeen Garg’s PSOs arrested for Rs 1 Cr scam

New Delhi, Oct 10 (UNI) The Assam police’s SIT/CID team apprehended two long-serving Personal Security Officers (PSOs) of the late singer Zubeen Garg, identified as Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya, today. They are sent to the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court.

The two PSOs attached with legendary singer Zubeen Garg were on Tuesday placed under suspension after transactions of more than Rs 1 crore were detected in their bank accounts even as one of the Singapore-based NRI wanted in connection with music icon’s death, appeared before the investigators.

The two Personal Security Officers (PSOs) recently arrested in connection with financial irregularities had been assigned to Assamese singer Zubeen Garg nearly a decade ago, following a death threat from the banned militant group ULFA.

According to the police, a thorough investigation uncovered suspicious transactions in the PSOs’ bank accounts, revealing deposits far exceeding their known sources of income — Rs 70 lakh in one account and Rs 45 lakh in the other. These discrepancies led to their suspension, and subsequently, their arrest.

The 52-year-old artist died in Singapore on September 19 while swimming in the sea. He had gone to the Southeast Asian nation to attend the 4th edition of the North East India Festival, organised by Shyamkanu Mahanta and his company.
