Bihar Assembly Elections: Over 8.5 lakh officials deployed for transparent polls

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) In preparation for the upcoming General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Bihar, the Election Commission of India has deployed a massive force of around 8.5 lakh officials to ensure the smooth and orderly progress of the polls. The assembly elections, along with bye-elections to 8 Assembly constituencies in 6 states and the UT of Jammu & Kashmir, were announced by the ECI on October 6, 2025.

As per the press note issued by the poll panel the deployed personnel include nearly 4.53 lakh polling personnel, 2.5 lakh police officials, 28,370 counting personnel, 17,875 micro-observers, 9,625 sector officers, and 4,840 micro-observers for counting. Additionally, up to 90,712 Anganwadi Sevikas may also be deployed to facilitate the electoral process.

To cater to the voters, the election machinery, including 90,712 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and 243 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), is available on a phone call through the Book-a-call to BLO facility on the ECINet App. A call centre number 91 (STD Code) 1950 has also been set up to register any complaints or queries at the District Election Officer/Returning Officer level.

In a move to ensure transparency, the ECI has deployed one General Observer for each of the 243 constituencies in Bihar, who will function as the eyes and ears of the Commission. Furthermore, 38 Police Observers and 67 Expenditure Observers have also been deployed to monitor the electoral process.

The deployed personnel will work under the provisions of Section 28A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and will be deemed to be on deputation to the Election Commission. With these measures in place, the ECI is confident of conducting free, fair, and transparent elections in Bihar.
