Deepika Padukone Hails MP’s Grassroots Mental Health Drive

Actress calls Rural Tribal Community Efforts ‘Truly Inspirational’

Saunsar: Bollywood actress and founder of The Live Love Laugh Foundation, Deepika Padukone, visited the Saunsar region today to commend local efforts in tackling mental health challenges. Padukone observed community programs run by the Rural Tribal Community Development Institute (RTCDI) in Belgaon and Borgaon, describing the grassroots initiatives as truly inspirational and transformative.

Meeting families and caregivers

During her visit, Padukone met with two individuals and their families in Borgaon who are coping with mental health issues. She listened attentively as they shared their personal challenges, experiences, and the critical support received from the institute. Later, at the Belgaon office, she interacted with caregivers and ASHAs, learning how they are making mental health services accessible and acceptable within their remote communities.

Fighting stigma and ensuring access

The RTCDI works in collaboration with Padukone’s foundation to deliver treatment, raise awareness, and combat the severe social stigma associated with mental illness in rural areas. RTCDI Director Vijay Dhawle called the visit a huge boost, emphasizing that Padukone’s presence reinforces the message that mental healthcare must reach every segment of society affordably and empathetically, especially in vulnerable tribal communities. The Live Love Laugh Foundation currently supports mental health programs across 20 districts in seven Indian states.
