I Was Meant to Be a Doctor, Not an Actor: Chunky Panday

Veteran actor reflects on 40-year journey

Balaghat: Veteran Bollywood actor Chunky Panday arrived in Balaghat on October 8 for a local cultural event, taking time to chat with the media at Hotel Mallikharjun. The star expressed delight over his visit, sharing his amusing observation that while he saw “some jungle” en route from Jabalpur, he was disappointed not to spot a tiger.

From medicine to movies

Panday, who entered the film industry in 1984 at age 23, revealed that his parents were doctors and had initially hoped he would follow in their footsteps. Crediting his entry into cinema to legendary singer Kishore Kumar, he admitted he “wasn’t entirely ready” for the film line then. With over 70 films to his credit, he highlighted Vishwatma, alongside hits like Aankhen and Tezaab, as pivotal to his career.

Praising daughter Ananya

The actor expressed immense pride in his daughter, Ananya Panday, who started her film journey in 2018. He affirmed that her successful career brings him great joy. Panday concluded by commending the event organizer, Sanjay Singh Kachhwaha, for championing local talent and bringing cultural richness to Waraseoni. Panday was in town to draw a lucky coupon and attend a grand orchestra organized by the Civil Club’s Nav Durga Utsav Committee.
