Madhya Pradesh Quota Battle Drags on
Bhopal: The long-awaited final resolution on Madhya Pradesh’s contentious 27% OBC reservation case has been delayed once again. The Supreme Court, which was scheduled to hear the matter today, has deferred proceedings until the second week of November.
Solicitor General Seeks More Time
The postponement came after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta requested more time for the hearing. This repeated deferral has fueled disappointment and anger within the OBC community. The OBC Mahasabha has publicly denounced the delay, labeling it a “judicial willful delay” in granting constitutional rights.
Youth Stuck in 87:13 Purgatory
With the state’s OBC population exceeding 50%, the delay is having severe on-ground consequences. The pending legal status has forced the application of the 87:13 formula in recruitment exams, where only 87% of results are declared, leaving 13% of positions on hold.
Petitioner Lokendra Gurjar warned that while they respect the judiciary, repeated adjournments are “unbearable,” suggesting the community is ready to “take to the streets democratically” if justice is not delivered soon. The focus now remains firmly on the Supreme Court’s November hearing.
