High Court orders de-freezing of ‘Machhli’ family accounts

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh High Court, led by Justice Vishal Mishra, has ordered the immediate de-freezing of bank accounts belonging to the family members of alleged Bhopal gangster Yaseen Ahmed alias ‘Machhli’.

The ruling follows a petition by family members who claimed they were being unfairly targeted by the District and Police administration, which had demolished their property while ignoring similar constructions by others. Crucially, the court noted that the Bhopal Collector and DCP Crime personally confirmed that no criminal cases are registered against the petitioners themselves.

While the government had cited Section 102 of the CrPC for freezing the accounts due to a large, suspicious transaction linked to the main accused, the petitioners countered that the transaction was legitimate business partnership income on which TDS was paid.

Acknowledging that the family members lack any direct criminal charges, the single bench issued the directive to de-freeze the bank accounts. The court stated the police are however, free to take action if subsequent investigations reveal incriminating evidence against the petitioners.
