U.S. Olympic champion Reeves sets three world records at IWF World Championships

Forde, Norway, Oct. 9 (UNI) Olympic champion Olivia Lynn Reeves of the United States asserted her dominance in the women’s 77kg category, storming to three gold medals and setting three world records at the IWF World Weightlifting Championships on Wednesday.

Reeves, 22, who won the 71kg title at the 2024 Paris Olympics, demonstrated her status as a leading contender among the 30 participants. She progressed cautiously in the snatch with good lifts from 114kg to 119kg before establishing a new world record at 123kg.

In the clean and jerk, Reeves took two attempts at 146kg before a world-record lift of 155kg, achieving a total of 278kg for her third world record.

Elsayed Mohamed Ahmed of Egypt claimed three silver medals with lifts of 112kg in the snatch, 140kg in the clean and jerk, and a total of 252kg. Colombia’s Mari Leivis Sanchez earned two bronze medals for a 112kg snatch and a total of 248kg. Martha Ann Rogers of the United States placed third in the clean and jerk with a lift of 140kg.

Yekta Jamali, 20, who represents the Refugee Team, was fifth in the snatch and eighth overall on 108-130-238.

Competitions in the women’s 86kg and men’s 94kg categories are scheduled for Thursday, with Norway’s Olympic champion Solfrid Koanda expected to compete in the women’s division.

Forde, a fjord town surrounded by mountains and waters, is hosting the 2025 IWF World Weightlifting Championships for the first time, with 477 lifters from 87 countries and regions participating.
