Focus shifts to Delhi Test as India hunt 2-0 sweep

New Delhi, (UNI) India’s Men in Blue are smelling a sweep. After steamrolling West Indies by an innings and 140 runs in Ahmedabad, they head to the Arun Jaitley Stadium starting October 10 with a chance to seal a 2-0 series win.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir, ever the motivator, will be hosting an informal dinner for the squad today evening, proof that good food and team banter can be as potent as a fast bowler’s spell.

The Delhi pitch promises drama: patches of grass, bald areas, and a black-soil base favouring batsmen early, with spinners ready to pounce as the surface dries. Short boundaries, a quick outfield, and a rich batting history make this venue a playground for strokemakers. Sachin Tendulkar leads the run charts with 759, followed by Dilip Vengsarkar (671), Sunil Gavaskar (668), Rahul Dravid (635), and Sourav Ganguly (582), names that still make bowlers sweat.

West Indies, bruised from Ahmedabad, were torn apart by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj, folding in 44.1 and 45.1 overs. KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and Ravindra Jadeja lit up the scoreboard, the latter also taking eight wickets.

The ‘Great Gavaskar’ didn’t hold back, calling most visitors “trundlers” while reminiscing about Caribbean legends: the Three Ws – Sir Everton Weekes, Sir Frank Worrell, and Clyde Walcott, alongside Clive Lloyd, Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes, Viv Richards, and Brian Lara.

Bumrah, carefully managed after a serious back injury, will spearhead the attack with Siraj, workload protection firmly in place as India eyes the Asia Cup, T20 World Cup, and 2027 ODI World Cup.

Delhi promises high-stakes cricket, with India hunting glory and West Indies scrabbling to avoid a whitewash. With Gambhir’s morale-boosting dinner, the Men in Blue look ready to write the next chapter of their capital conquest.
