Bhopal: The fatal shooting of 10-year-old Riya Rajak in Kolar’s Rajharsh Colony has been linked to a celebratory firing incident involving the son of a retired DSP. Police investigation suggests the bullet that tragically killed the child came from the retired officer’s licensed rifle during a Dussehra ‘Celebratory Fire’.
Police have seized the rifle and issued a notice to the retired DSP. Initial investigation involved reviewing records of licensed weapon holders near the victim’s home, leading police to the retired officer’s residence where the key evidence was found.
The retired DSP’s son allegedly used his father’s weapon to fire the shots. Consequently, police sources indicate that the retired DSP will also be named as an accused in the case, alongside his son, as the weapon was used in the commission of the crime.
Police are currently awaiting the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report to officially confirm the link between the seized rifle and the fatal incident before filing definitive charges.
