Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal has once again showcased its leadership in medical research and innovation. Prof. (Dr.) Anshul Rai, a Maxillofacial Surgeon from the Department of Dentistry, has developed an advanced dental implant design that has been granted a patent under the Government of India’s Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) framework.
Drawing on his surgical experience since 2005, Dr. Rai created a unique implant specifically tailored for patients with low bone density and diabetes—groups that often face complications with conventional implants. This innovative implant requires minimal drilling, significantly reducing pain, swelling, and the need for post-operative medication.
A key feature of the design is its enhancement of the Contact Osteogenesis process, where osteoblast cells form new bone around the implant. The improved structure allows these cells to penetrate deeper, resulting in stronger, more stable bone fusion.
Dr. Rai has also applied for a trademark for the implant, which is expected to be approved soon.
Prof. (Dr.) Madhabanand Kar, Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Bhopal, congratulated Dr. Rai and announced that the implant will be linked to the Government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives, with production beginning soon to ensure affordable, high-quality dental care for all.
