- Guna couple accuses police of passivity and persecution
Bhopal: A terrifying scene unfolded outside the Chief Minister’s official residence on Monday afternoon when a couple from Guna attempted to set themselves ablaze in a desperate protest. Devkinand Soni and his wife doused themselves with an inflammable substance, but swift intervention by on-site security personnel successfully averted the self-immolation bid. The couple was immediately taken into custody by Shyamala Hills Police for intensive questioning.
Allegations of police inaction and harassment
The extreme act was precipitated by the alleged persistent misconduct and inaction of the Guna Police Administration. The Soni couple claimed they were victims of “goondaism” related to a shop dispute, and that the Guna Kotwali police not only failed to act on their complaints but also threatened to implicate them in a false case.
Devkinand Soni stated they had exhausted all official avenues, submitting grievance applications to authorities ranging from the Superintendent of Police to the DGP without receiving any redressal. The couple had reportedly issued a prior public warning to carry out the extreme protest. Police are currently investigating the serious allegations against the Guna Police Administration that motivated the public attempt at self-harm.
