Arson before awaited ceremony near Ashima Mall
Bhopal: The spirit of Dussehra was marred in Bhopal’s Misrod area after a 51-foot-tall effigy of Raavan was torched by unidentified miscreants hours before its scheduled ceremonial burning.
The incident occurred near Ashima Mall where the effigy, along with those of Kumbhkaran and Meghnad, had been erected for the evening’s main event. Despite security checks, four individuals arrived in a car without a license plate around 6 a.m. on Thursday. After briefly posing for selfies, the group set the Raavan effigy ablaze before speeding away.
Police scour CCTV footage
Misrod Police Station Incharge Sandeep Pawar confirmed that a case has been registered based on the complaint from organizer Aditya Ram Dubey. Police are now facing a complex investigation, having to scour CCTV footage from the entire route to trace the vehicle.
The absence of a number plate is hindering identification. Police are creating a route map based on available camera feeds, determined to apprehend the “mischievous youths” responsible for prematurely and illegally sabotaging the significant cultural event.
