Gorakhpur, Oct 2 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries, stating that the double-engine government is working to realise their dreams.
After offering floral tributes at the Gorakhnath Temple, the Chief Minister said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Swadeshi movement, central to Gandhi’s philosophy, has become a model for the world.
CM Yogi highlighted that UP’s Swadeshi efforts, inspired by Bapu’s vision, are seeing remarkable success. The One District, One Product (ODOP) scheme is achieving global recognition, and the state is moving towards self-reliance “from chips to ships.”
He noted that world-class defence equipment, including the BrahMos missile and AK rifles, are now being manufactured in the state’s Defence Manufacturing Corridor, marking a significant step in Swadeshi.
To further boost this movement, the CM announced that Swadeshi fairs would be organised in every district before Diwali. He also urged people to use the new 25 percent discount on Khadi products, effective today, to generate employment and strengthen the economy.
Recalling Gandhi’s emphasis on cleanliness, the Chief Minister said PM Modi has elevated this value through the Swachh Bharat Mission, which has built over 12 crore toilets across the country.
Paying tribute to Lal Bahadur Shastri, the CM described him as a true Gandhian and a staunch advocate of self-reliance who gave the slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’. The decisive victory in the 1965 war under his leadership showcased India’s strength before the world.
The Chief Minister concluded by extending greetings for Vijayadashami, noting that the life of Lord Shri Ram continues to inspire humanity with lessons of dignity and righteousness.
