Oscar-winner Kidman, singer Keith Urban part ways citing irreconcilable differences

Los Angeles, Oct 1 (UNI) Nicole Kidman has filed for divorce from her husband, country music star Keith Urban, after nearly two decades together.

The 58-year-old Oscar-winning actor submitted the petition on Tuesday in a Nashville court, seeking to end her marriage to the 57-year-old Grammy-winning singer, CNN reported.

According to the filing, the couple cited “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences.”

Court documents include both a marriage dissolution and a parenting plan for their two teenage daughters. Kidman requested to be designated as the primary residential parent.

Neither party is seeking spousal or child support, and each will retain the assets registered in their own name, including copyrights and royalties tied to their artistic work, CNN noted.

Kidman and Urban, both originally from Australia, first met at a Los Angeles event in 2005 honoring Australians in the entertainment industry.

They tied the knot in Sydney the following year. While it was Urban’s first marriage, Kidman was previously married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001, with whom she shares two older children.

The couple has long been admired for their resilience in the face of personal challenges. Last year, at the premiere of Netflix’s The Perfect Couple, Kidman downplayed the idea of perfection in relationships. “You’re heading for trouble if you consider yourselves the perfect couple. I’m not a believer in perfection,” she told CNN.

Urban, meanwhile, has often credited Kidman with unwavering support, especially during his early struggles with substance abuse.

At the AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony last year, Urban brought Kidman to tears when he recalled, “Four months into our marriage, I’m in rehab for three months. Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own, and she chose love. And here we are 18 years later.”

Kidman, known for acclaimed performances in Moulin Rouge, Eyes Wide Shut, Big Little Lies, and her Oscar-winning role in The Hours, continues to balance work in both film and television.

Urban, a four-time Grammy winner, has been a leading figure in country music since the 1990s, with hits like “Somebody Like You” and “Blue Ain’t Your Color.”
