Delhi CM performs Kanya Pujan

New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today performed the traditional ‘Kanya Pujan’ (worship of young girls) on the auspicious occasion of Shardiya Navratri on the day of ‘Maha Navami’ at the government girls school in Haiderpur, North- West Delhi.

The CM stated that the Delhi government is committed to ensuring a bright future for the children, adding that every girl is hope, inspiration and strength of the society.

She said that the daughters are the foundation of families and society, and without their empowerment, neither families, nor society, nor the nation can progress.

Gupta emphasised that Navratri is not merely a festival of faith and devotion, but also conveys a profound message of respecting women’s power and recognising the vital role of daughters in society.

Throughout the ceremony, the atmosphere was filled with devotion, affection, and a spirit of togetherness.

The CM remarked that the worship of young girls during Navratri symbolises both reverence for strength, and embrace of compassion.

She said the festival and the worship done today reminds of the duty to provide daughters with education, equal opportunities, and a safe environment to enable them to become empowered.

She also mentioned that the tradition of ‘Kanya Pujan’ has been practised for generations, and that she has always felt that the future of the country and society rests in its daughters.

Expressing her joy on being part of the programme, the CM interacted with every girl child, while they shared their aspirations with Gupta, as some wished to become doctors, teachers, while others dreamt of joining the police force.

The CM said every girl has her own dreams, and the government stands firmly beside them to help realise those dreams.

She also highlighted the Delhi government’s ‘Honslon Ki Udaan’ (Flight of Courage) scheme, explaining that it is designed for children who otherwise have no opportunity to showcase their skills or talents.

Through this initiative, the government will identify their abilities and provide support to help them move forward, Gupta added.
