Bengaluru, Sept 30 (UNI) The All India Tennis Association has announced the final squad for India’s women’s team for the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Play Off, to be held in Bengaluru from November 14-16 at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium. This will be the first time India hosts the playoffs.
The squad blends experience and youth, featuring Ankita Raina, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, Prarthana Thombare, Sahaja Yamalapalli, and Riya Bhatia, with Vaidehi Chaudhari named as a reserve. Vishal Uppal will captain the side, assisted by coach Radhika Kanitkar.
Training will begin from November 4 in Bengaluru, with Zeel Desai and Shruti Ahlawat joining the team for preparations. Notably, Maaya Rajeshwaran, a reserve during India’s qualification, is not part of this squad.
India has been drawn in Group G alongside Slovenia and seventh-seeded Netherlands. The teams will play round-robin matches, with group winners advancing to the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers. The remaining teams will return to their respective 2026 Regional Group I events. India’s only previous appearance in the play-offs came in 2021, when they lost 3-1 to Latvia.
Earlier this year, India secured their play-off berth by finishing second at the Billie Jean King Cup Asia-Oceania Group 1 in Pune, defeating Korea Republic 2-1 and finishing behind New Zealand.
Considered the World Cup of women’s tennis, the Billie Jean King Cup—formerly the Fed Cup—brings together top-ranked players in a team format and is regarded as the female counterpart of the men’s Davis Cup.
