Home Secy flags off ITBP all-women mountaineering expedition to Mt Nun in Ladakh

New Delhi, Sept 27 (UNI) Home Secretary Govind Mohan today flagged off an all-women mountaineering expedition to Mount Nun at the ITBP headquarters here.

Govind Mohan honoured the women mountaineers with cash awards and lauding their grit and indomitable spirit, an official statement said.

He underlined that ITBP has consistently remained at the forefront of mountaineering and reiterated the Ministry of Home Affairs’ commitment to promoting such expeditions and sports activities.

In his address, Director General, ITBP, Rahul Rasgotra highlighted the remarkable feat in which 14 women mountaineers of ITBP, led by Assistant Commandant Bhanita, successfully summited Mount Nun (Ladakh, 7,135 meters) on August 14.

This historic achievement not only adds a new chapter to ITBP’s glorious legacy of mountaineering excellence but also stands as a landmark in the journey of women empowerment.

Senior officers of the force, expedition leaders and the Himveeranganas who scaled the peak were present on the occasion.

This occasion has not only elevated the spirit of adventure within ITBP but has also set a new benchmark of excellence in high-altitude mountaineering, inspiring generations to come.
