- Hearing in apex court today
Bhopal: In a strategic move ahead of a crucial Supreme Court hearing, the Madhya Pradesh government has expanded its legal team to argue for the 27% reservation for the Other Backward Classes (OBC). The state has hired prominent lawyers in addition to the standing Advocate General to present its case.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the matter today. To strengthen its representation, the government has authorized senior Tamil Nadu advocate and Rajya Sabha MP P. Wilson, along with advocate Shashank Ratanu, to represent the interests of the OBC community in the case.
The decision to bring in additional legal counsel underscores the government’s determination to defend the reservation policy, which has been a subject of intense political and legal debate. To ensure seamless communication and coordination among the legal team, Deputy Secretary Ajay Katseriya of the General Administration Department was recently appointed to a liaison role.
This comprehensive approach reflects the high stakes involved in the case, as the outcome will have a significant impact on thousands of individuals and reshape the state’s reservation policy. The inclusion of external legal expertise is seen as a sign that the government is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to secure a favorable verdict from the apex court.
