New Delhi, Sept 23 (UNI) For a hassle-free travel experience during the festive season, the Railways has finalized plans to operate record number of special trains to manage the surge in passengers during Diwali and Chhath.
“From October 1 to November 15, during the Diwali and Chhath festivals, Railways will operate record number of 12,000 special trains to ensure passenger convenience and avoid last-minute rush,” said Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw here today.
Speaking at a press conference here, in the presence of Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu, he said last year, 7,500 special trains were operated during these festivals. The Minister added that so far, 10,000 special trains have been notified, and an additional 150 fully unreserved trains will be kept ready for rapid deployment, if required, at short notice.
Vaishnaw also highlighted that 29 railway divisions, including Malda, Nagpur, Kota, Ranchi, Jaipur, Rajkot, Bikaner, and Ahmedabad, have achieved 95 per cent punctuality in train operations. He also claimed that the Ministry of Railways is working tirelessly to reach 100 per cent punctuality across all 70 divisions.
