New Delhi/Paris, Sept 23 (UNI) Paris Saint-Germain Ousmane Dembélé and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati won the 2025 Ballon d’Or awards at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
Yesterday, Dembélé, 28, received the men’s Ballon d’Or for the first time after contributing significantly to PSG’s first UEFA Champions League title last season. He scored 35 goals in 53 appearances in all competitions for treble-winners PSG, who also won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.
“Thank you all. What just happened to me is incredible. I’m speechless. It’s been an amazing season with PSG. I’ve experienced incredible things, and I’m a little nervous; it’s not easy,” he said yesterday while receiving the prestigious award.
Bonmati, 27, claimed the women’s Ballon d’Or for a third consecutive year joining Michel Platini (1983-85) and Lionel Messi (2009-12) as only the third player in history to three-peat.
She played a central role in Barcelona’s league and Champions League campaigns, leading her team in goals and assists. She finished ahead of Spain teammate Mariona Caldentey and England forward Lauren James.
“This is my third consecutive year here, and I’m not quite sure what to say. It’s incredible. Thank you to France Football for giving me the award that could have easily gone to any of you. If I could share it, I would,” she said addressing the audience.
Other awards presented during the ceremony included the Kopa Trophy for best under-21 players, won by Lamine Yamal and Vicky Lopez. The Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper was awarded to Gianluigi Donnarumma, Italian Goalkeeper and Hannah Hampton of Chelsea.
The Gerd Muller Trophy for top scorer across club and country went to Sweden striker Viktor Gyokeres and Barcelona forward Ewa Pajor in the women’s category. PSG coach Luis Enrique received the men’s coach of the year, while England’s Sarina Wiegman won the women’s equivalent. PSG and Arsenal were named men’s and women’s clubs of the year, respectively.
