India fined for slow over-rate in final ODI against Australia

New Delhi, Sept 23 (UNI) India’s women’s cricket team has been fined 10 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over rate in the third and deciding Women’s ODI against Australia in New Delhi.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) said in its statement, “India have been fined 10 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against Australia in the third and deciding Women’s ODI in New Delhi.

Australia defeated India by 43 runs in a record outing, which saw sensational hundreds from Beth Mooney and Smriti Mandhana.”

India fell short of the required over-rate despite time allowances. “GS Lakshmi of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction following this,” said ICC.

The ICC outlined the rules governing over-rate offences. “In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over if their side fails to bowl in the allotted time,” the statement said.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur accepted responsibility. “India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing,” the ICC added.

This was the last outing for either side prior to the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, which is being hosted by India and Sri Lanka. India kicked off their tournament in Guwahati on September 30 against Sri Lanka, whereas Australia began their run the following day in Indore against neighbouring rivals, New Zealand, the statement added.
