Bhopal: CMI General Development of Education and Communication Media organized a workshop for teachers of CMI schools from Madhya Pradesh at St. Paul’s Co-Ed School, Anand Nagar, Bhopal. The workshop aimed to sensitize teachers to create a safe environment, titled “Creating a Substance Abuse Free Environment (SAFE) School”. Two hundred teachers from ten CMI institutions across various locations participated in the seminar.
The resource persons for the workshop were Ms. Shalini Jacob and Ms. Manju Milan from Fourth Wave Foundation, Kochi, Kerala. They guided teachers to identify areas that lead youngsters to substance abuse. The main objective of the seminar was “Say No to Drugs”. The seminar was organized under the SAFE School Project, which aims to create awareness through positive parenting workshops, student empowerment programs, teacher sensitization sessions, and community enforcement activities.
The resource persons made teachers aware of the potential dangers of various substances and highlighted that students are often easy targets of such harmful practices. Experts suggested practical solutions like the concept of “Alternative Pursuits”, which encourages students to engage in sports, music, and other creative activities. These activities generate adrenaline hormones that produce positive effects similar to drugs and keep young minds away from substance abuse.
Principal Dr. Father Thomas expressed gratitude to all and said that today’s youth are rapidly falling prey to substance abuse. This seminar will inspire teachers to play an active role in guiding and protecting students. The session proved to be highly beneficial and informative, providing teachers with in-depth knowledge on the issue.
