“Swadeshi Mela” to showcase indigenous crafts at Gohar Mahal from today

Bhopal: The cultural heart of Bhopal is set to come alive with the “Swadeshi Mela,” a seven-day exhibition of indigenous art and craftsmanship. Inaugurating today at Gohar Mahal, the event is part of the central government’s “Swadeshi Seva Pakhwada 2025” and is organized by the Madhya Pradesh Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation.

Over 50 artisans from across the state will participate, displaying a vibrant array of handmade products including pottery, metalwork, textiles, woodwork, and hand-woven items. According to event in-charge Arvind Sharma, a special feature of the fair will be the on-site customization of products by the artisans, allowing visitors to get bespoke items.

A major highlight of the fair will be the “One District One Product” initiative, showcasing unique crafts from various regions. The exhibition will feature Bhopal’s exquisite zari-zardozi work, jute bags, Budhni’s wooden toys, Ujjain’s Batick prints, Bagh prints from Dhar, and the renowned Chanderi sarees from Ashok Nagar. The fair, which aims to preserve and promote traditional craftsmanship, will be open to the public from 12 PM.
