Austria welcoming Indian students to its three top universities

New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s landmark visit to Austria in July last year, in the first trip by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 41 years, during which the two sides welcomed the bilateral Migration and Mobility Agreement, Vienna is welcoming Indian students to its three top universities to enhance educational cooperation.

As part of the initiative to help Indian students pursue higher education in engineering and technology courses in Austria, Ambassador Katharina Wieser today announced a collaborative programme between Austria’s three leading Technical Universities — TU Wien, TU Graz and TU Leoben, and VFS Education Services.

This public-private partnership aims to support Indo-Austrian mobility for skilled engineering and technology students.

Under this agreement, Indian engineering and technology graduates from recognised colleges will be able to pursue higher education in the three universities.

The Austrian Ambassador said at the event: “Austria looks forward to further enhancing Austria-India cooperation by deepening academic ties, creating new opportunities and warmly welcoming talented Indian students into our world-class public technical universities.

“This partnership represents a significant step in bridging India’s bright STEM talent with Austria’s globally recognised centres of research, innovation and academic excellence. Indian students bring immense creativity, knowledge and diversity to our campuses, and we are proud to support their journey towards shaping a shared global future.”

Under the programme, Indian engineering students from ANABIN colleges across India can apply. ANABIN is an official German information portal used to assess the equivalence of foreign educational qualifications, including universities and degrees, to German standards.

Students will be provided one year post study visa extension upon graduation.

Applications are being accepted for summer and winter intakes.

PM Modi had visited Austria on July 9-10 last year, which was the first trip by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 41 years. The visit also coincided with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Austria, underscoring the long-standing ties between the two nations.

During his visit, PM Modi called on Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and held discussions with Chancellor Karl Nehammer. During their talks, PM Modi and Chancellor Nehammer highlighted the importance of skill development and the mobility of skilled workers. They welcomed the bilateral Comprehensive Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement, facilitating exchanges while combating irregular migration.

The Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement had entered into force on September 1, 2023, positioning bilateral mobility and migration as tools of mutual development.
