New Chandigarh, Sep 17 (UNI) India Women scripted a dominant 102-run win over Australia Women in the second ODI of the Australia Women tour of India at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium here today, showcasing clinical batting and disciplined bowling.
Batting first, India posted 292 all out in 49.5 overs. Smriti Mandhana was the star performer, scoring a sublime 117 off 91 balls with 14 boundaries and four sixes, combining elegance with aggressive strokeplay.
Pratika Rawal contributed 25, while Harleen Deol made 10 before being run out in a mix-up with Smriti. Harmanpreet Kaur (17), Deepti Sharma (40), and Richa Ghosh (29) played important middle-order innings, and Sneh Rana provided a late flourish, hitting 24 off 18 balls before being caught in the final over by Megan Schutt off Darcie Brown.
The final 10 overs of India’s innings were dramatic. Kranti Goud was run out in the 47th over attempting a risky single. Arundhati Reddy fell bowled to Brown for 4, and Deepti Sharma was caught by Annabel Sutherland for 40 in the 46th over.
Sneh Rana hit two stylish boundaries but was caught by Brown off Schutt in the 49.5th over, preventing India from playing out the full 50 overs.
Earlier, Mandhana had reached her second fastest ODI hundred for India, including a six off Georgia Wareham and multiple elegant boundaries off Ashleigh Gardner, Tahlia McGrath, and Alana King, dominating the Australian bowling attack.
In response, Australia Women were restricted to 190 all out in 40.5 overs. Ellyse Perry top-scored with 44, while Annabel Sutherland (45) and Sutherland scored 45 off 42.
Alyssa Healy (9), Georgia Voll (0) and Tahlia McGrath (16) failed to convert starts into meaningful innings. India’s bowlers were relentless. Kranti Goud picked three wickets and Deepti Sharma bagged two.
Radha Yadav, Renuka Singh Thakur, and Arundhati picked up crucial scalps, consistently applying pressure and hitting the right lengths.
The match highlighted India’s balance between aggression and composure. The batting effort, anchored by Mandhana, was complemented by sharp fielding and disciplined bowling, particularly in the death overs, ensuring a comprehensive win.
With this victory, India Women squared the ODI series 1-1, putting them in good stead.
