Tamim’s fifty helps Bangladesh post 154/5

Abu Dhabi, Sep 16 (UNI) Bangladesh scored 154 for five in their allotted 20 overs against Afghanistan in the 9th Group B match of the Asia Cup 2025 here at Sheikh Zayed Stadium today.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, Bangladesh’s innings had an explosive start with Saif Hassan hitting 30 off 28 balls before falling to Rashid Khan in the sixth over. Tanzid Hasan Tamim then took charge, smashing 52 off 31 deliveries, including three sixes and four boundaries, giving Bangladesh a strong foundation. Litton Das, the captain, fell early for nine, trapped lbw by Noor Ahmad on the first ball of the 10th over.
The middle order added some late momentum. Towhid Hridoy scored 26 off 20 balls, reaching Bangladesh’s 100-run mark with a six over deep square leg, before being caught by Karim Janat off Azmatullah Omarzai.
Shamim Hossain contributed 11 before Rashid Khan trapped him lbw in the 15th over. Nurul Hasan remained unbeaten on 12, finishing the innings with a late flourish, hitting two boundaries in the final overs off Fazalhaq Farooqi, including Bangladesh’s 150th run at 19.3 overs.
Afghanistan’s bowlers maintained control, with Rashid Khan taking 2 for 26 in four overs and Noor Ahmad also claiming two key wickets. Fazalhaq Farooqi and Azmatullah bowled tight spells, while Mohammad Nabi and AM Ghazanfar kept Bangladesh’s run rate in check during the middle overs.
Bangladesh’s innings featured aggressive strokes, including multiple sixes by Tanzid Hasan and quick running between the wickets, especially from Nurul Hasan and Towhid Hridoy. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, the team managed a competitive total to defend against Afghanistan’s batting lineup.
Match officials included umpires Faisal Afridi and Raveendra Wimalasiri, with Rohan Pandit as third umpire and Richie Richardson serving as match referee.
