Cong accuses Modi Govt of handing over Bihar’s resources to Adani; calls it “double loot”

New Delhi, Sep 15 (UNI) The Congress today launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi government, accusing it of handing over Bihar’s natural and public resources to industrialist Gautam Adani at a token price of just Re one per year.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera alleged that 1,050 acres of fertile land and 10 lakh trees in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur have been handed over to Adani for setting up a 2,400-megawatt power plant, under a lease agreement for just 1 rupee per year, for a period of 33 years— raising serious concerns over environmental destruction, economic injustice and political favoritism.

“This is not development, this is loot — and not just loot, it is double loot,” Khera alleged.

“A plant built on Bihar’s land, with Bihar’s money, generating electricity from Bihar’s coal — will be sold to Bihar’s people at Rs 6 per unit,” he claimed.

He further alleged that in Maharashtra, just before the elections, the power plant project and Dharavi were handed over to Gautam Adani. Similarly, projects were awarded to Adani in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh just before elections there as well. This is a very long list, and whenever the BJP feels it might lose an election, it rushes to grant favours to Gautam Adani in advance.

Taking a jibe at the BJP’s public campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, Khera questioned the hypocrisy behind such symbolism.

He also criticised the media, asking why such issues have gone unreported, and why no national debate has been held on the issue.

“We’ve laid all the facts before the media. Now, the responsibility lies with both the media and the people of Bihar to ask questions and demand accountability,” Khera said. UNI RBE SSP
