Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Jeetu Patwari has written a sharply critical letter to Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, accusing the BJP government of adopting “double standards and deceptive tactics” on the OBC reservation issue. He alleged that while the Chief Minister makes promises in public, his actions prove completely contradictory, leaving OBC students repeatedly betrayed.
Patwari reminded Yadav of the 28 August all-party meeting in which he had assured restoration of 13 per cent reserved posts currently on hold. At that meeting, opposition parties, including the Congress, had unanimously supported the move and pressed for immediate appointments. The Chief Minister, Patwari pointed out, had pledged to consult the Advocate General in Delhi and take an early decision.
However, Patwari claimed the Delhi meeting produced a completely different outcome. Despite the presence of OBC students and their advocates, the Advocate General flatly refused to restore the posts and instead spoke only of appointing a special counsel for OBC matters. Patwari described this as yet another “U-turn” that highlighted the BJP government’s arrogance and tendency to mislead the people.
The Congress leader likened the government’s behaviour to the proverb that elephants have “different teeth for eating and for display,” accusing the BJP of offering false assurances while undermining OBC rights. He stressed that Congress had assured full cooperation to ensure fair representation but the government’s shifting stance raised doubts about its intentions.
Patwari concluded by demanding immediate withdrawal of the 13 per cent hold and swift appointments for OBC candidates. He warned that this was not only a political issue but a constitutional obligation for the Chief Minister. If ignored, he cautioned, the matter could escalate into a state-wide agitation.
