PMLA case: Shikhar Dhawan joins ED probe

New Delhi, Sept 4 (UNI) Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) today in connection with a Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case related to the online betting app, 1XBet.

Dhawan is currently being questioned by a team of senior officials, who are recording his statement in the matter.

The investigating agency suspects that Dhawan had links with this app through certain advertisements and promotions. Earlier, the ED had questioned former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina in connection with the case. The betting app had appointed Raina as its brand ambassador in December last year.

The ED has recently intensified its investigation into online betting platforms. The agency is also focusing on advertisements being made by film stars and cricketers for banned betting platforms like 1xBet, Fairplay, Parimatch, and Lotus365.

Prior to Raina, the ED had already questioned players like former cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh.
