NHRC issues notices to Bihar officials in rape-murder of minor girl in Patna

New Delhi, Sept 3 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today said it has issued notices to the Director General of Police, Bihar, and the District Magistrate, Patna, seeking a detailed report within two weeks in the reported rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl by the caretaker of a garden in the Maner area of Patna district.

The incident occurred on August 26, 2025. The report is also expected to address any compensation provided to the victim’s next of kin, said the NHRC which took suo motu cognizance of the crime.

According to media reports, the accused allegedly hanged the victim’s body from a tree in an attempt to disguise the murder as a suicide. The girl had reportedly gone to collect wood when she was lured by the perpetrator with a guava to a room near the garden, where the crime was committed.

“The NHRC observed that the report, if verified, raises serious human rights concerns. The Commission has accordingly issued notices to the Director General of Police, Bihar, and the District Magistrate, Patna, seeking a detailed report within two weeks. The report is also expected to address any compensation provided to the victim’s next of kin,” said the statement.

The girl was reported missing by her family on August 26, and her body was found hanging from a tree in the waterlogged garden on the morning of August 28, 2025.
