Bengaluru, Sept 2 (UNI) The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) has announced a roadmap for export diversification in response to the “unreasonable tariffs” imposed by United States President Donald Trump.
Speaking at the FKCCI Export Excellence Awards function in Bengaluru, FKCCI President MG Balakrishna said the tariffs pose a significant challenge to exporters, particularly small-scale businesses operating on thin margins. “This is a real threat to the competitiveness of our exporters,” he noted.
Balakrishna outlined steps for FKCCI members to address the challenge and urged the Government of India to provide a stimulus package or relief measures to safeguard the growth of exports. He emphasised Karnataka’s continued role in boosting India’s exports, noting that the state consistently ranks among the top three exporters, contributing nearly one-fourth of the country’s software exports.
Key sectors such as aerospace, machine tools, biotech, coffee, silk, and engineering goods continue to thrive, while the state is also emerging as a hub for startups entering global markets with innovative solutions.
The FKCCI recommended that exporters diversify destinations to reduce dependence on the US market. Members were advised to align with European union standards through CE certifications, sustainability labels, and quality benchmarks, and to target high-growth economies such as Vietnam, Indonesia, and South Korea.
The Federation emphasised leveraging Karnataka’s IT-BT and engineering capabilities to position India as a stable alternative in global supply chains under the China 1 strategy.
Balakrishna concluded that Karnataka’s blend of tradition and modernity makes it well poised to expand its presence in international trade.
