Bhopal: At a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav on Tuesday, the Madhya Pradesh government approved a series of significant proposals aimed at strengthening infrastructure and public welfare. Key decisions were taken on water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission, major road developments, and a railway overbridge in Ujjain.

One of the most prominent approvals concerned the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ with the government sanctioning the revised costs of several ongoing schemes. The increased financial burden will now be borne by the state government. The mission, estimated at ₹80,000 crore, includes a major drinking water project worth ₹20,000 crore. Officials underlined that the scheme would ensure a reliable supply of tap water to households across the state.

In the transport sector, the cabinet granted administrative approval for the construction of the ‘Indore–Ujjain Greenfield access-controlled road’. The four-lane highway, featuring paved shoulders and two-lane service roads on either side, will be built under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). With a sanctioned budget of ₹2,035.15 crore, the project is scheduled to be completed within 17 months. Authorities stated that the highway would ease traffic on existing routes and provide faster connectivity between the two key cities.

Another major road scheme approved was the ‘Narmadapuram–Timarni route, stretching 72 kilometres. The two-lane road with paved shoulders, also under HAM, received administrative approval with an overall budget of ₹972.16 crore, inclusive of land acquisition costs.

Additionally, the cabinet cleared the construction of a ‘new four-lane railway overbridge’ at Harifatak crossing in Ujjain city. Measuring 980 metres in length, the bridge will include ramps and two additional lanes. The project, costing ₹371.11 crore, is intended to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety at one of the city’s busiest crossings.

Officials remarked that these approvals demonstrate the state government’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure expansion while addressing essential public needs such as drinking water. The projects are also expected to create employment opportunities and improve the quality of life in several districts.
