Gross GST collections rise 6.5pc in August 2025, net revenue up 10.7 pc

New Delhi, Sept 1 (UNI) Goods and Services Tax (GST) gross collections in August 2025 rose to Rs 1,86,315 crore, recording a 6.5 per cent increase over Rs 1,74,962 crore collected in the same month last year as per the data shared by the Ministry of Finance.

Net GST revenue after refunds in August stood at Rs 1,66,956 crore, marking a sharper 10.7 per cent rise compared to Rs 1,50,791 crore in the same month last year.

According to official data, the cumulative gross GST collection for April–August 2025 reached Rs 10,04,414 crore, compared to Rs 9,13,855 crore in the corresponding period of 2024, reflecting a robust 9.9 per cent year-on-year growth.

The rise was primarily driven by domestic GST revenue, which grew 9.6 per cent in August to Rs1,36,962 crore.

In contrast, GST collected from imports showed a slight contraction of 1.2 per cent, amounting to Rs 49,354 crore against Rs 49,976 crore in August 2024. However, on a cumulative basis, import collections remained strong with a 12.4 per cent growth in April–August 2025.

During April–August 2025, net collections touched Rs 8,78,096 crore, higher than Rs 8,06,765 crore a year earlier, representing an 8.8 per cent growth.

Refund activity influenced these trends. Domestic refunds declined 21.4 per cent year-on-year in August to Rs 11,014 crore, while export refunds dropped 17.9 per cent to Rs 8,346 crore. Overall, refunds for April–August 2025 remained elevated at Rs 1,26,318 crore, an 18 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
