Chandigarh, September 1 (UNI) Punjab is facing a severe flood crisis, with nine districts Fazilka, Firozpur, Kapurthala, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Moga, Gurdaspur, and Barnala severely impacted, affecting 1,312 villages, according to official reports. Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has stepped forward to offer assistance, spotlighting the dire situation.
In a social media post, Dutt expressed his concern, stating, “The devastation caused by the floods in Punjab is truly heartbreaking. I send my strength and prayers to all those affected. I will do my best to help in every possible way. May Baba ji protect Punjab.” His pledge has drawn attention to the crisis, inspiring hope among affected communities.
A red alert has been issued for Punjab, Jammu-Kashmir, and Haryana due to forecasts of heavy rainfall. Authorities warn that heavy rains in the hills could further swell the Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej rivers, potentially worsening the flooding. In Zirakpur, the rising Ghaggar river has prompted an alert in Patiala. Eight districts Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, and Fatehgarh Sahib are under a red alert for heavy rain and winds up to 40 kmph.
Seven districts, including Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Moga, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Patiala, and Mohali, are on an orange alert, while other districts remain under a yellow alert. Similar weather warnings, with orange and yellow alerts, are expected to continue on Tuesday.
As relief efforts intensify, Dutt’s commitment to aid Punjab underscores the urgency of the situation, potentially rallying further support for the state’s recovery.
