Pune Aug 29 (UNI) Months after the union government accorded classical language status to Marathi language, the joint procession of 11 Ganesh Mandals from Dhankawadi Pune has chosen the slogan ‘M for Marathi’, attracting thousands of Ganesh devotees.
After offering books as Naivedya (devotional offering) to the Lord of wisdom, the Ganesh idols of all 11 mandals were seated on the language glory chariot.
The procession began from Gulabnagar, Dhankawadi, and passed through Dhankawadi village, Keshav Complex, Vidyanagari Shivshankar Chowk, up to Mohannagar. The dhol pathak (traditional drum troupe) of Jnana Prabodhini, playing in unison with one rhythm and one beat, captivated the devotees.
During the procession, 500 Marathi language teachers were honoured. In addition, 10,000 Marathi books were distributed along the procession route.
MLA Bhimrao Tapkir, Varsha Tapkir, former corporator Vishal Tambe, Mohini Devkar, Assistant Commissioner of Dhankawadi Surekha Bange, and Madam Ann from Italy were present as special guests.
