Beirut, Aug 29 (UNI) Two Lebanese soldiers were killed, and two other army personnel injured on Thursday night as they were inspecting an Israeli drone after it fell in the southern Lebanese town of Naqoura, according to a statement by the Lebanese army.
The National News Agency (NNA) reported that the Israeli drone fell while it was attempting to drop an explosive bomb on an excavator, adding that ambulances immediately headed to the scene.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun expressed deep sorrow over the killing of the soldiers, and the injury of two others.
According to a statement released by the Lebanese Presidency, this is the fourth incident in which military personnel were killed since the Lebanese army began deploying in the area south of the Litani River.
Since Nov. 27, 2024, a ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel, brokered by the United States and France, has been in effect, aiming to end more than a year of cross-border clashes.
Despite the agreement, the Israeli army occasionally conducts strikes in Lebanon, claiming they are aimed at eliminating “Hezbollah threats.”
Additionally, Israel has kept its forces stationed at several key positions along the Lebanese border, even though the agreement stipulates their complete withdrawal.
