Water Resources Minister Silawat meets Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla

  • Rs 1000 Crore proposal to revamp Gwalior Medical College

Bhopal: Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat met with Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Rajendra Shukla to propose a Rs 1000 crore renovation project for the Gwalior medical college and hospital. The proposal aims to revitalize the aging Gajara Raja Medical College and its associated J.A. Hospital group, a facility that serves as a vital healthcare hub for the region.

A timely upgrade for a historic institution

The proposal highlights the urgent need for a comprehensive upgrade given the current condition of the medical buildings and the increasing number of patients. The plan includes increasing bed capacity and constructing a 1,500-seat auditorium. The J.A. Hospital’s main building, a pre-Independence structure, is also in dire need of restoration.

Deputy Chief Minister Shukla assured Minister Silawat that the proposal would be reviewed and acted upon swiftly. He has scheduled a meeting for the upcoming month to finalize the decision and has invited Silawat, who is also the minister in charge of the Gwalior district, to attend.

Minister Silawat emphasized that the upgrade aligns with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure. The college, which started with just 60 MBBS students, now educates hundreds of students and employs thousands of medical and support staff, making this renovation a critical investment in the region’s public health.
