Kishtwar, Aug 23 (UNI) union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha are expected to visit the cloudburst-hit village of Chisoti in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow, official sources said.
During their visit, Rajnath Singh and LG Sinha will meet the families affected by the tragedy and review the ongoing search operation to trace the missing persons.
The cloudburst, which struck Chisoti on August 14, triggered massive flash floods and landslides, leaving a trail of destruction. As per the latest official figures, at least 64 people have been confirmed dead, while 167 have been rescued. The number of missing persons has now been revised to around 40.
Chisoti village lies on the Machail Mata pilgrimage route and was the last motorable point before the final trek to the revered temple. Rescue teams are continuing efforts to locate the missing amid challenging terrain and weather conditions.
